A great day was had by all at the Blundellsands Tennis Club El Classico vintage tournament this summer, a charity event in aid of the club and Claire House.
Around 30 of our club players of all ages and abilities donned their best vintage outfits and accessories, grabbed a wooden racket and took to the courts for an American style tournament. Play commenced at 12.30pm and rounded up at about 4.30pm (with a well-deserved lunch break in between!). Players rotated around the courts, playing 7 games, then splitting partners and moving courts, recording their scores each time. As well as the tennis there was food, music, a raffle, face painting and the bar was open; fun for all the family!
BLTC veteran Geoff Stubbs came along to support the event and hand out prizes to our worthy winners Kieran (1st) and Alex (2nd). Well done!
It was great to see the clubhouse filled with so many members, old and new, and give all those involved the chance to play against members they may not normally get the opportunity to play.
A fantastic £300 was raised for our club and Claire House.
A huge thank you to all involved in making the day such a success. Special mentions to:
· Al for dreaming up the idea, coordinating the day, and providing the rackets
· Al’s lovely family for providing the delicious lunch
· Alan for restringing all the vintage rackets
· Phil, Joe and Dawn for organising the players and scoring the tournament
· Bern and Jude for running the bar, music and providing sweet treats
· Everyone who donated raffle prizes
We are going to make this an annual event, so look out for the dates for 2024!
